Leader: Berri, the Master Ranger!

BerriWhile playing in the fields below Mt. Chimney, Berri met her first poachers. A shiny Swablu barely escaped the poachers, and injured its wing in the process. That Swablu has since grown under Berri’s care, inspiring in the young girl a need to protect nature and the peaceful Pokemon that live there. Berri traveled the regions, learning from many trainers who shared her calling, and adopted the title ‘Ranger’. She has since settled down to her own gym, teaching all those who pass through its doors that Pokemon and nature are meant to be respected. Should you manage to defeat her, the Berry badge will be yours.

Introducing Rival Cards!

Yo! Heading to PAX to challenge the League, huh? Were you really invited, with those pokemon? Let me give you some advice: while working on my Pokédex, I looked all over for powerful Pokémon! Not only that, I assembled teams that would beat any Pokémon type! But the most important thing was having a strong rival to keep me sharp! Well, I’d better split before I catch loser-itis!

Smell ‘Ya Later.

You’re not the only one on the road to being a PAX Pokemon League champion, and this year at PPL East 2012, your skills are going to get honed even further by your Rival – a challenger just like you!

Rival System:
After your first league gym challenge, you’ll receive a Rival Card. This card will contain information such as league rules and contact information, meetup times, and Gym Leaders recommended for your skill level. Also on this card will be a picture of a “Match Item.” If you find another challenger with the same match item on their card, you may both visit a Gym Leader to be declared Rivals.

A Sample Rival Card. Design subject to change. Wait, who is that second leader...?

Rival Points:
Once per day, you can visit a Gym Leader with your Rival and declare a Rivalry Challenge. The Gym Leader will give you special rules your challenge match will have to follow. (If your team cannot fulfill the requirements of the challenge, just let the leader know.) Participating in a match will get you a Rival point on your card.

Rival Badge:
If you get all three Rival Points by battling your rival each day of PAX, you will both receive a special Rival Badge. This special badge will count towards the eight badges required to challenge the Elite 4 and the Champion.

Rivals and the Champion:
While Rivals may be at odds with each other during their league journey, there comes a time to put grudges aside in the face of a greater challenge. If you or your Rival can defeat the Champion, you will both receive a fabulous prize, so be sure to cheer them on at the end!

Leader: Oceanus, the Storm Chaser!

One early morning while Oceanus was swimming off the coast of Cinnabar Island, a riptide tore him away from the shore and forced him under. When he came to, he found himself stranded on an unknown island with rough seas all around him. After days of wandering, he came upon a Sharpedo that was trying to escape a fishing net. In exchange for freeing it, Sharpedo took him back home, and the two are inseparable to this day. Ever since then, Oceanus has dedicated his life to the study of the ocean and the Pokemon that inhabit it (in addition to opening up his own gym). If you manage to turn the tides against him, the Hurricane badge will be yours!

PAX Preparations Are Underway!

Just a quick update. We’re doing a lot of things behind the scenes, but we’re not quite ready to reveal all of them. The big art project is progressing nicely, and we may have something really cool in store for champions that defeat the whole league!

However, if you’re planning to go to PAX East, and want to get the best hotel deals (I swear we’re not being paid for this), you can order them through the official PAX East block. You do require a one-day deposit, but it doesn’t actually charge your card until later, as I’ve been told. I’m personally staying at the Westin Boston Waterfront, along with a lot of other PAXers, including some leaders!

Hope to see you all at PAX! 😀

League Update!

Leader application season is over, and we’ve finally decided to extend invitations to those applications that stood out! There were many more applications than leader spots open, so if you applied and were unfortunately not chosen, we hope you’ll still enjoy challenging the league!

There’s a lot of things going on behind the scenes. Aside from all the chaos of bringing new leaders up to speed, we are planning many amazing things behind the scenes. There’s the craft project for some amazing unique (seasonal, too!) prizes that you saw last time. There’s badge designs, leader information, and plenty more that we’ll be able to show off to you. Needless to say, this is going to be the biggest league yet, so spread the word!

This site is still a work in progress, but keep coming back here for tidbits about the league, the prizes, and most importantly – the leaders!
