Leader: Drake and Lily, the Poke-Couple!

After performing in a Pokemon musical, Lily was ambushed by a biker gang. Though she had complete confidence in her team of adorable Pokemon, they were getting badly beaten. Training nearby, Drake overheard the commotion and came running to see what was happening. He appeared on the scene to see the distressed Lily in tears over her downed friends but still fighting on with her last remaining Pokemon. Drake jumped into battle at her side and together they defeated the attackers. They have been partners since that day, even if he still shakes his head at her affinity for cute Pokemon over more battle-ready ones. Defeat them both to earn the Tag-Team badge!

Want To Help Support PPL?

Challengers,

The PAX Pokemon League is an attendee-run volunteer organization. It is not officially sponsored, so all expenses come from leaders’ pockets and donations. The League has many expenses, and this year we’re going to be having lots of prizes and giveaways, which we’ll be posting about as PAX East approaches!

If you’d like to help support us, and have some spare funds, please consider donating to our PayPal account. Funds go strictly to things like prizes, hand-outs (ex: trainer cards), and other related materials.  By no means do the funds go to paying anyone within the PPL!

To thank you for your donation, we’re offering some pay-what-you-want donation wallpapers made by our art director, Pokemon Researcher Nyankokimi!

Thanks again for your support! We look forward to seeing you at PAX East!

Leader: Okashi, the Stunfisk Specialist!

Once a trainer like any other, Okashi of Unova was one of the few that Team Plasma’s message reached. Realizing that she would be unhappy stuffed in a pokeball all day, she released her team into the wild and took to a lonely island to reevaluate herself. While there she came across a school of wild Stunfisk. She quickly became friendly with the creatures and spent her days learning, playing, and helping them on a level she never did with her old team. When she had to return to the mainland, her new Stunfisk friends didn’t wish to see her go, and many tagged along and began following her wherever she went. This caused quite a stir when a swarm of Stunfisk over-ran the PAX Pokemon League HQ in early April 2012. The League, interested in her bond with the Pokemon  asked if she would consider testing this bond of friendship against trainer teams’ discipline in good ol’ Pokemon battling. Six of her most loyal Stunfisk rose to the challenge and await trainers looking for the chance to earn the Stargazer Badge!

Leader: Issac Bolt, the Top-Speed Pokeathlete!

Born in Goldenrod City, Issac has been a season ticket holder to the Pokeathlon Dome for as long as he can remember. When he was very young, his grandfather took him to see all of the events, but Issac loved the Speed events most, marveling at how quickly the Pokemon could sprint about the field. He knew that when he came of age he wished to train his Pokemon to be as fast as possible, in order to enter them in the Pokeathlon. Once day, while at the Dome, he came across a Munchlax trying and failing to run along the track, being too heavy and small to jump the hurdles. Issac helped it run the track by carrying it on his back, and from that day forward, the two have been inseparable. Outspeed Issac Bolt to earn the Relay-Run Badge!

Leader: Melanie, the Wooper Fanatic!

Melanie grew up in Pastoria City, where at a young age she started to explore the swamps near her home. There she met Woopy, a Wooper who grew up to be her best friend and lifelong companion, as well as become her high-spirited mascot for her battles. Melanie’s known for her childish attitude and the excitement of a twelve-year-old, but even so, don’t let her childlike manner fool you. She is no pushover and should be taken seriously; take this girl lightly and you may end up face down in the mud. Stay on your toes and enjoy yourself, and you may just be the lucky recipient of the Swamp Badge!

Leader: Alexander, the Determined Coach!

Alexander dreamed of creating a place where trainers could congregate, share training suggestions, push each other to be better trainers, and make new friends along the way. Believing that anything can be achieved through determination, he set out to achieve his dream and the Ion Training Center was born. There, trainers of all levels come together to work on improving their skills and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow trainers. Alexander also uses the facility to host classes for aspiring trainers to help them get started on their journey as a Pokemon trainer, guiding his students through his emphasis on willpower, teamwork, and respect. Specializing in grass-type Pokemon, due to his affinity for the color green and belief that it represents the emotional center, he accepts challenges from any and all trainers, awarding an Ion Badge to those who can best him in competition.

Leader: Simon, the Easygoing Esper!

Born and raised in a quiet village adjacent to a Slowpoke colony, Simon spent his childhood playing and napping amongst the Slowpokes in the local pond. He was awakened to his latent psychic powers while fending off poachers who were after Slowpoke tails, and spent every day henceforth honing his skills with the help of the Slowpoke. Due to his upbringing and his… rather mild-mannered mentors, Simon doesn’t have a taste for the hustle and bustle and high class that other psychic trainers possess, instead preferring to take things at a slow and relaxed pace, which is reflected in the Pokémon he chooses to take on challengers with. Slow down, catch your breath, and take Simon on to earn the Slow Badge!

Leader: Maxwell Graves, the Oracle of Ill Omens!

Originally a sham fortune teller who specialized in séances by using his ghost type Pokémon to swindle people out of their money, Maxwell has recently been getting attention for claiming to be getting warnings from a force beyond the veil. While still largely viewed as a fraud, more of his predictions have been coming true as of late…. It is unknown if he really does have any ability to see the future, but what is known is that his Ghost-type Pokémon can pack quite a punch! Challengers who defeat him will earn the Fortune Badge!

Leader: Catya, the Island Settler!

Catya was born to a family of shepherds in the small tribe of Blue on the island of Catan. One day, the rival Orange tribe hired bandits to raid Catya’s fields, and she found herself fighting alongside a young Mareep to protect her family’s lands. The bandits were barely defeated, and she realized that in order to secure the safety of her tribe, she must venture beyond the bucolic pastures of her childhood. Catya and her Mareep set out on a quest to gather Pokemon from every region of the island. Years later, she has secured the prosperity of the Blue tribe and established Catan’s first Pokemon Gym. Defeat the Settler to receive the Hex badge!

Can you solve the mystery of the LEGENDS?

I tried taking a picture of them so you could see, but whenever I do they seem to scramble themselves… it’s very mysterious! I suppose I will just have to give them to you in person….

So, challengers, as I mentioned before, I know you’re getting ready to embark on your journey to challenge the PAX Pokemon League, and I was hoping to ask for your help! I’ve still been searching rigorously for clues as to the locations of the legendary birds… all I’ve been able to come up with so far are three coded messages written on old scraps of parchment that I think may be keys to their locations. Unfortunately, though, I have no idea how to decipher the messages… that’s why I need your help!

At the start of your journey, I’ll give you a copy of one of the three messages. Hopefully, gym leaders or other trainers you meet during your journey or even the badges you collect will be able to give you some clue as to how to solve the puzzle. You should definitely ask the gym leaders! They’re all brilliant, some of them must have some hints…. Also, feel free to work together with other challengers! Who knows, maybe you’ll meet some new friends in the process? Or even rivals?! :O

If you can figure out what the message says and come back and let me know, I’d really appreciate it! I’ll have a little prize for you, too! And just think how you’ll be advancing the field of Pokelinguistics… you’ll go down in the books for sure!

Oh! And one more thing. I was telling Pokemon League Janitor Rufus about my research and after about a week of tinkering in his broom closet he gave me a bunch of these little pins…

He told me they’d help. I’m not sure what they’re for, but I’ll give them to you, too!

Good luck!
