PAX EAST 2026 SCARLET AND VIOLET RULES

Requirements:

Challengers must own a Nintendo Switch, Pokémon Scarlet or Violet, and be registered on the PPL webapp to participate. (Links to the webapp will typically be available closer to when event starts)

Leader Availability:

Be on the lookout- Anytime a Leader is accepting challengers, they will be wearing a bright green scarf.

Battle Format:

Battle Format varies by Leader (singles/doubles/etc) but all battles will use Normal Rules.

Species Clause:

A player’s team may not contain two Pokémon with the same National Pokédex number (including all regional forms). Exceptions may be made for novelty teams.

Self-KO Clause:

If anyone uses a move that is an intentional self KO move (like Explosion) the user of the move loses the match if it is the deciding factor. Moves with recoil do not apply to this clause and the user of that move will win the match.

Sleep Clause:

A player cannot put two or more opposing Pokémon to sleep using attacks that induce sleep to opposing Pokémon. A Pokémon using Rest does not count towards this total.

Evasion Clause:

A player cannot increase their Pokémon’s evasion stat with a move that specifically increases evasion (such as Double Team). Abilities such as Snow Cloak etc are allowed.

Stall Clause:

Any movesets designed to specifically stall out the battle to slowly whittle down opponents while recovering health are not allowed.
Example: Garganacl with the moveset Recover, Salt Cure, Iron Defense, Protect.

Legal Pokémon:

Only legal Pokémon and Pokémon officially released by Game Freak may be used, including Pokémon that are transferred through Pokémon Home.

Limited Items:

Only one Pokémon on the team may use Leftovers. Only one Pokémon on the team may use Black Sludge.

Banned Abilities:

The ability Speed Boost is banned on Espathra.

Limited Moves:

Only one Pokémon on the team may use Revival Blessing.

Banned Moves:

The moves Last Respects, Fissure, Guillotine, Sheer Cold, and Horn Drill cannot be used.
