East 2017 Team Showcase

Postby Aurethious » Mon Mar 13, 2017 5:32 am

It's that time again everyone! As we all come down from a PAX sugar high, it's time to showcase the team that you led into battle this week. Whether you were a leader or challenger, feel free to post your crew for all to see!

I'll kick it off with mine.

[b6ll]Alexander, the Proud Paragon[/b6ll]

Rock Slide
Accelerock
Sucker Punch
Swords Dance

The general idea with the team was a super gimmicky, yet oddly effective blend of Trick Room and faster Pokémon that functioned outside of it. I ran my gym as a Double Battle gym. The plan was to lead with Gigalith and Carbink. Gigalith would get the sand going and Carbink would set up Trick Room and screens. Golem would be the next one in to take advantage of the Trick Room and if needed, would explode on the last turn of Trick Room, leaving the faster clean up crew to come in. During rematches, I would switch it up and lead with Aerodactyl and set up Tailwind, which really baffled people. Overall, the team performed very well... maybe too well.[/spoiler6ll]

[b6ll]Alexander's Four Horsemen Bonus Team[/b6ll]

For anyone who made it through and defeated Oceanus without beating the other Horsemen, but still wanted to complete the challenge, they needed to face me with this team. It was only used once.

[spoiler6ll][img6ll]http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon/025.png[/img6ll]

[img6ll]http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon/319-m.png[/img6ll]
Waverider
Ability: Speed Boost (Strong Jaw upon Mega Evolution)
Item: Sharpedonite

Ringmaster
Ability: Prankster
Item: Light Clay

Dazzling Gleam
Reflect
Light Screen
Safeguard

Another Double Battle team. The concept of this was to take a Pokémon from each of the Horsemen's teams. Omastar was from my team, Greninja from Commander Sheperd, Pikachu from Red, and Mega Sharpedo from Oceanus. Politoed for rain and Klefki for screen support were chosen to round out the team. Nothing super fancy here, but the team was pretty efficient in testing and won the only battle it saw at PAX.[/spoiler6ll]

I swapped Gliscor for a few battles (e.g. teams that are toxicproof), but other than that pretty much stuck to this.
[spoilerz7z]Tapu Koko @ Life Orb
Timid/Electric Surge/Sp.Atk+Speed EVs
-Thunderbolt
-Volt Switch
-Dazzling Gleam
-Hidden Power Ice
Had to catch this like 20 times for HP Ice, but finally found it and did grinding to lvl 100 over the last week to hyper train it.

Gengar (shiny) @ Choice Specs
Timid/Cursed Body/Sp.Atk+Speed EVs
-Shadow Ball
-Sludge Bomb
-Focus Blast
-Energy Ball
Wasn't necessarily going to run a gengar, but I hatched this on the plane over (first shiny I've ever hatched!), and it's only a couple sp.def points from perfect.

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Relaxed/Iron Barbs/Tanky EVs
-Power Whip
-Gyro Ball
-Stealth Rock
-Leech Seed

Gliscor @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
Sassy/Poison Heal/Tanky EVs
-Knock Off
-Toxic
-Substitute
-Protect

Conkeldurr @ Assault Vest
Ability: Guts
Adamant/Guts/Attack+Tanky EVs
-Drain Punch
-Mach Punch
-Knock Off
-Ice Punch

Metagross @ Metagrossite
Jolly/Clear Body/Atk+Speed EVs
-Meteor Mash
-Zen Headbutt
-Bullet Punch
-Thunder Punch[/spoilerz7z]

Had a few issues (3 ground weak pokemon), but it generally worked pretty well.

Casual 'Mons: These are some Pokemon that fit my Leader description that I simply threw in after becoming a Casual Leader. Just some things I had from my Y Version. Since I was Singles 4v4, I'd take 2 or 3 of these into a fight and fill in from the regular team if I was fighting a casual competitor. Fought with these about 5 times over the weekend.

[imgjw9]http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon/690.png[/imgjw9][imgjw9]http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon/302.png[/imgjw9][imgjw9]http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon/687.png[/imgjw9]
[spoilerjw9]Skrelp
Item: Eviolite
Nature: Calm
Ability: Poison Point
IVs: Decent
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Sp. Atk, 4 Spd
- Toxic
- Thunderbolt
- Scald
- Shadow Ball

Sableye
Item: Quick Claw
Nature: Brave
Ability: Keen Eye
IVs: Decent
EVs: 252 HP, 128 Def, 128 Sp. Def
- Recover
- Will-o-Wisp
- Fake Out
- Knock Off

Malamar
Item: Expert Belt
Nature: Jolly
Ability: Contrary
IVs: Terrible
EVs: Random
- Pluck
- Superpower
- Foul Play
- Psycho Cut[/spoilerjw9]

Standard Team: These are the Pokemon I used 90% of East 2017. My theme was Poison/Dark which worked out really well since they check each other quite well. If a Psychic move was coming for a Poison Type, I could easily switch into something with Dark. If a Fairy attack came at a Dark 'Mon, swapping into a Poison Type helped. I used Alolan Muk and Hydreigon the most and they had good synergy. Most people would come at Muk with Ground moves since Ground is its only weakness and most do not know Hydreigon's only Ability is Levitate, so that was a nice surprise. I didn't have many big checks, Steel Types just tended to get on my nerves. I didn't put Salazzle on this team and that might have helped since Hydreigon was the only thing to take care of Steel Types.

Re: East 2017 Team Showcase

Did I complete the league? No. Did I get eight badges? No. But, in the matches I did play for the league I went 5 for 5 and had fun doing so. Did a lot more matches with my friends over the weekend and will probably prepare for a stronger league challenge next year. However, this is the team I used in 3 of my 5 matches (one being a fun match, one being a double battle, which will also be posted after this team. Keep in mind this was a team made for Smogon UU when it first arrived so stats will be set to level 100, but it won it's three matches in the league, and went 6-1 throughout the weekend, only losing to a hail team, via hail buffeting.

[spoilerjph]Brawnzong (Bronzong) @ Normal Gem
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Explosion
- Trick Room
- Gyro Ball
- Stealth Rock

Again, I say I didn't prep myself to take on the league so I was lacking on rules knowledge. Mew was the pokemon on this team that was the original rock-setter, but Bronzong fit the bill too. Trick Room does nothing for this team, as it's taken from another team I didn't want to change it. It's main purpose was to set up rocks and go Normal Gem boom.

Up The Spout (Araquanid) (M) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Water Bubble
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Def
Adamant Nature
- Leech Life
- Crunch
- Poison Jab
- Liquidation

Took me three attempts to get this thing shiny and Adamant, but I did it. Kind of a funky spread, But it's meant to eat up a few hits while attacking with Liquidation heavily powered up by Water Bubble. Mainly I needed a bulky water, and I hate using Suicune, and am loving using this so far.

FastButFrail (Zygarde-10%) @ Life Orb
Ability: Aura Break
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage
- Thousand Arrows
- Extreme Speed

Just as the name says Zy"doge"garde 10% hit's as hard as it's 50% counterpart, lacking the bulk, and boosting it's speed. It can hit anything with Thousand Arrows, finish off a weak opponent with E-Speed, or it can hit hard with Outrage. D-Dance is there for obvious switch outs so you can threaten your opponent that much more and punish them for switching out.

Turtleneck (Tsareena) @ Leftovers
Ability: Queenly Majesty
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- High Jump Kick
- Rapid Spin
- U-turn
- Trop Kick

Kinda bulky? Check. Spinner? Check. Blocks priority? Check. Tsareena is and probably will continue to be an underrated threat in UU and overall in Sun and Moon. I didn't give it speed because it's main purpose is to spin and, if need be, surprise opposing Scizor's as in UU they're typically banded no speed. So, since Tsareena outpaces them, it can deal heavy damage and allow Linoone to clean up easily later in the game.

Sia Joke... (Chandelure) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Memento
- Flamethrower
- Energy Ball
- Shadow Ball

Three days it took to get this thing shiny. What's it main purpose? To Memento and cause stat drops for an easy Belly Drum from Linoone. However, it did sweep through two gyms with Flamethrower. So, despite it's main purpose essentially being to faint, it still hits like a truck when it needs to and is given the opportunity to.

Linoone @ Aguav Berry
Ability: Gluttony
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Belly Drum
- Extreme Speed
- Seed Bomb
- Shadow Claw
(Korean in-game due to SKWC E-Speed event)

This thing is my star of the show. My mascot may be Meloetta but I've been heavily enjoying using Linoone so far ever since I got this event two years ago. This generation, with the healing berries going from 12.5% to 50% it's Gluttony ability get's huge boost as well making it that much more threatening. Obviously it's purpose is to E-speed after the memento drops and E-Speed to win. This pokemon is the endgame of this team and essentially plays right into my play style of playing from behind. Linoone has taken me back from 5-1 to win game before, or it's swept on it's own from the start. It's a very one-dimensional pokemon, but if set up correctly, it's a heavy threat to any team.

So this was my singles team, if you know the endgame you can make plays to work towards it. If your opponent doesn't know where it's headed, then false security is your friend.[/spoilerjph]

And, for the one doubles team I faced I used a Trick Room team, because that's where my strength mainly lies.

[spoilerjph]Hercule (Conkeldurr) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Drain Punch
- Mach Punch
- Knock Off
- Ice Punch

Very good fighting type, hits hard. Not really much to say here. It's a good Trick Room sweeper that eats up hits pretty well naturally.

Wolfe (Exeggutor-Alola) @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Harvest
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Draco Meteor
- Flamethrower
- Giga Drain
- Trick Room

In experimenting with 7th gen Trick roomers, A-Eggy has shown me the most promise. I love the thing to death, but it's very difficult to use at times. However it did set up the winning TR in the doubles match I was in after living a critical Boomburst. Also, access to Flamethrower is AMAZING coverage to have if Eggy is under Trick Room against, say a Scizor or something.

A Duck (Porygon2) @ Eviolite
Ability: Download
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Trick Room
- Recover

Shiny since Gen 6 Porygon2 is my favorite Trick Room setter. Fully offensive with Eviolite it's Defenses are still insane and it hits very hard with BoltBeam. Stays alive with Recover, and easily sets up TR when at full health.

No Backstory (Necrozma) @ Leftovers
Ability: Prism Armor
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Morning Sun
- Stealth Rock
- Trick Room
- Psychic
(Note: In game is "Decent" in Speed, as it is a lengend and TR only really depends on Low Speed, not 0 speed)
The irrelevant Gen 7 legendary, I use it for it's easy TR setting and ability to stay healthy and Stealth Rock abilities. It's really only around to stay alive and set up Trick Room.

AnchorMeDown (Dhelmise) @ Life Orb
Ability: Steelworker
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Anchor Shot
- Earthquake
- Shadow Claw
- Power Whip

The longest Gen 7 hunt for a shiny so far for me is easily my favorite shiny in the generation. With it's base 131 attack it hits very hard, and Life Orb boosts it just that much more. With it's triple STAB abilities it makes for a very good pokemon and highly underlooked in my opinion.

FTBI'mOut (Golisopod) @ Aguav Berry
Ability: Emergency Exit
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- First Impression
- Liquidation
- Poison Jab
- Aqua Jet

Priority King that did nothing against Pete BECAUSE OF A HYPER BEAMING SYLVEON! So yeah, it's here to hit hard and get off multiple First Impression's but wasn't able to do so in this match.[/spoilerjph]

All in all, I had fun this weekend and look forward to participating more next year. :)

I was a multi battle leader this year, though I did mainly take most of my fights solo (which was completely fine by me). Needless to say, since I wasn't an Elite this PAX, I decided to have a little fun with the teams that I made. If you've been paying attention to some of these posts, there was one person who definitely got to experience to the true fun of Specs Boomburst Spam and Hyper Meme Sylveon. Of course, when I was doing my multi-battles, the team made a bit more sense for Doubles, but I didn't want to sacrifice the silliness for when I was solo. Also, everyone loved the nicknames, which was a definite plus.

[spoilerkjf]AAAAAAAAAAAH! (Exploud) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Scrappy
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Boomburst

Scrappy, Modest, Specs Boomburst because what else is Exploud doing? Usually I'd try to have a Tailwind up so that it wouldn't die to literally anything. It was fun though because like, why not?

WAKE UP DUDE (Conkeldurr) @ Life Orb
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Brave Nature
- Drain Punch
- Mach Punch
- Ice Punch
- Detect

Standard Doubles Conk. Plus it was very nice to have some priority on here, plus Detect was nice with the Boombursters.

MANICSCREAM (Sylveon) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 56 HP / 200 Def / 252 SpA
Modest Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Psyshock
- Hidden Power [Ground]
- Hyper Beam

Nice coverage, plus Specs user #2. And like, it had Hyper Beam. You can't go wrong with Hyper Beam.

ROOOOOOOOAR (Salamence) @ Life Orb
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Fire Blast
- Hydro Pump
- Tailwind

No one expected a Special Mence, which was nice because I nearly always lead Mence to get intimidates off, and then blast off a coverage move to knock out somethings that were bad for my team. When I could I'd set up a tailwind, though it was more or less when Mence wasn't going to be useful anymore.

HOO HAH! (Machamp) @ Lum Berry
Ability: No Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 188 Atk / 68 Def
Adamant Nature
- Dynamic Punch
- Wide Guard
- Knock Off
- Protect

Wide Guard protects from Boomburst and other spread moves, and Dynamic Punch was a nice STAB. Of course, I mainly included this only because on my old team it knew Wake-Up Slap. Still, it was very helpful with Knock Off too.

CAW CAAAAAAAW! (Swellow) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Scrappy
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Boomburst
- Heat Wave
- U-turn
- Sleep Talk

My second Boomburster, didn't hit as hard, but was faster. Also was nice for pivoting out with U-Turn, or hitting spread with Heat Wave in the event that Boomburst wasn't the way to go. It did compound my ice weakness, but whatever. It still hit really hard.[/spoilerkjf]

So yeah, being a gym leader is a lot of fun when you use goofy Pokemon that no one is expecting to be good.
