What can I say about this team? Delightful to concoct in my head all those months ago and it was an amazingly fun team to play with as a Gym Leader. The reactions from challengers when they heard the theme and began piecing it together or trying to figure it out were easily one of my favorite parts of being a Gym Leader this year. So without further delay: The Wily and Hazardous Pokemon Companions of Isaac Adler!

I made this team to specifically to mess with heads, using not so common sets on some of these Pokemon, and specifically to find way to counter popular meta strategies on the OU tier. In some cases, they performed very admirably and kept many a trainer wary, and in other cases they didn't...necessarily have the best of times. On the whole, however, they were a blast to use. They even teamed up extraordinarily well with Blaire's and Dr. Toxin's Pokemon (an absolutely thrilling and terrifying hour of doubles battles if I do say so).

Oh! On a side note: I, too, wish to see this Blastoise Standoff situation, it sounded tense!

As prof Oak, in case people did not have the pleasure to fight me (*us really) or didn't get to watch how it all went down, I had to construct multiple teams, two of which that had to be changed during PAX, so bare with me here! Elm, Birch, or I would give a short speech and let our challenger select from one of three pokemon located within pokeballs. Their options were a Shuppet, Magikarp and Bulbasaur. Whichever they selected, they fought alongside the professor associated with it. As Oak, I was poison, where Elm was Dark, and Birch was Ghost. I would like to share my multiple, multiple teams!

Also, all my Pokemon were default named, with the exception of my Dragalge.

[b640]My team with Elm![/b640]
[spoiler640][img640]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/545.png[/img640]
Ability: Speed Boost
Jolly: Max Speed / Atk
Item: Leftovers
Baton Pass
Megahorn

Swords Dance

[img640]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/168.png[/img640]
Ability: insomnia
Jolly; Max HP, half Atk/Sp. def
Item: Focus Sash
Baton Pass
Sticky Web
Hone Claws
Poison Jab

[img640]http://www.serebii.net/Shiny/XY/691.png[/img640]
Name: Tetrodo
Ability: Poison Point
Serious; MAX HP / Sp. Atk
Item: Life Orb
Hydro Pump
Sludge Bomb
Draco Meteor
Thunder

Half way through Saturday, Muk was brought in place of Aradios.

[img640]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/089.png[/img640]
Ability: Sticky Touch
Impish: MAX Atk / HP
Item: Assault Vest / Black Sludge
Power Up Punch
Shadow Sneak
Poison Jab
Rock Slide[/spoiler640]
The idea here was to have Scolio pass two or three speed boosts into Ariados, allowing the spider to drop a sticky web or get off a hone claws on first turn. He was almost guaranteed to drop to 1hp that same turn, so he'd poison jab or baton pass his next move. Unfortunately, this strat relied too much on Scolio pulling off his bit, only to pass into a very mediocre Pokemon who would sometimes drop after only getting one move off. This strat was FAR to easy for challengers to overcome. It also did not help that with Dragalge it felt like every challenger was packing Ice Beam on every poke.

We tried to switch things up, so Muk came into play. Muk was set up for a separate team (you'll hear more about this later), but he fit into this team beautifully. ... Too beautifully. His next to nothing speed, suddenly increased by two - three speed boosts, was fairly nice. It was the one or two swords dances that he received that made him a thing to fear. Packed with an assault vest, and is sticky fingers gripping it tightly, he wasn't joking when he hit with a power up punch once or twice. Because he was so beastly, we had to switch his item from Assault Vest to Black Sludge to make him from scary to just plain tanky.

I honestly wish I had Muk setup at the end of the line. Dragalge just had no benefits from half of the baton pass (as swords dance did nothing for him) - just the hone claws to make his low accuracy spikes to have a better chance to hit, and then the speed boosts to make his wimpy speed better. I should've made it a very physical team and let Elm bring the Special. Live and learn - wasn't going for über competitive anyway!

[b640]Team with Brich![/b640]

[spoiler640][img640]http://www.serebii.net/Shiny/XY/407.png[/img640]
Ability: Natural Cure
Item: Choice Scarf
Timid; MAX Sp. Atk / Speed
Sleep Powder
Leaf Storm
Toxic Spikes
Sludge Bomb

[img640]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/110.png[/img640]
Ability: Levitate
Item: Leftovers
Bold; MAX HP / Def
Will-O-Wisp
Explosion
Flamethrower
Pain Split

[img640]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/034.png[/img640]
Ability: Sheer Force
Item: Life Orb
Modest; MAX Sp. Atk / Speed
Fire Blast
Ice Beam
Thunderbolt
Earth Power

Half way through Saturday, I replaced Roserade with Tentacruel!

[img640]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/073.png[/img640]
Ability: Rain Dish
Item: Black Sludge
Calm; MAX Sp. Def / Speed
Toxic Spikes
Ice Beam
Scald
Knock Off[/spoiler640]
The idea with this team was a lot more simple. Roserade would setup up, putting a pokemon to sleep or dealing massive damage with her first two turns (as that's usually all she was allowed to have). Weezing would follow, who would float around and look pretty, before exploding - dealing NO damage to my partner as he was ghost - and/or getting off a friendly little burn on my opponent. Nidoking would drop as my last pokemon to perform what I would call "Clean-Up." He was setup to counter most of what he saw, and the challenger had to stop him.

The major problem with this team was my Roserade lead being WAY to good. She countered whatever she felt like, and made Elm's mega-garados look like a joke. I had to take her out, as much as that pained me (She was shiny and I love her! D:). So Tentacruel came into play, and was a lot more bearable, although he was getting almost TOO lucky with his ice beams.

Only thing I would have changed, from a competitive standpoint, was that Roserade and Tentacruel both should not have had Toxic Spikes. It was doing very little of anything. I would have gladly switched it for something more threatening.

[b640]My team with the Challenger![/b640]

[spoiler640][img640]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/003.png[/img640] == [img640]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/003-m.png[/img640]
Ability: Thick Fat
Item: Venusaurite
Relaxed; MAX HP / Attack
Sleep Powder
Power Whip
Synthesis
Knock Off

[img640]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/089.png[/img640]
Ability: Sticky Touch
Impish: MAX Atk / HP
Item: Assault Vest / Black Sludge
Power Up Punch
Shadow Sneak
Poison Jab
Rock Slide

[img640]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/452.png[/img640]
Ability: Sniper
Item: Life Orb
Careful; MAX Attack / Speed
X-Scissor
Knock Off
Poison Jab
Swords Dance[/spoiler640]
So let me tell you about this team: not only was it the only team of mine to not change, but it was fierce. I will admit, Elm and Birch were going to have a hard time beating it, and that was because once Drapion dropped and got a swords dance in, he was unstoppable. He was actually too much of a counter and I HAD considered taking him out. Even apart from him, however, Thick Fat Venusaur proved to become one of my favorite mega's, as his bulk was pure and scary. Assault Vest Muk rarely got to see his moments, but when he did, he made me happy. He is general defense and overall lacking speed make him hard to use when he isn't being boosted by someone else.

I really don't think I would have done anything different with this team. Like I said, I considered possibly taking Drapion off to make it less easy mode for me and my challenger, but alas, I never made this change, and being possibly the least chosen of the leaders, I did not regret not making this change.

I also had a solo team, but only two of my challengers got to see and fight this team. Within it, only one pokemon I had not used with any of my other teams - and straight up refused to - and that was Gengar. Shadow Ball slingin', big, wide grinin' Gengar.

Late to the game with the team of Kincho, the mountain spirit. My team was themed around Japanese folklore-- I was proud of any of you who recognized which poke was which legendary creature!

[spoilerxls][imgxls]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/678.png[/imgxls]
[bxls]The Nekomata[/bxls]

-Nasty Plot

[imgxls]http://www.serebii.net/Shiny/XY/038.png[/imgxls]
[bxls]The Kyubi no Kitsune[/bxls]

[bxls]The Futakuchi-Onna[/bxls]
Hannya the Mawile
w/Intimidate and Mawilite

-Swords Dance
-Iron Head
-Play Rough
-Sucker Punch[/spoilerxls]

My team relied a lot on mind games, surprises and on challengers forgetting certain key things (which actually happened a lot). When all that failed, Mawile was there to bust out the muscle.

I was surprised at the sheer number of people who did not remember Meowstic M's prankster, Mawile's typing, or Zoroark's presence on my team. And I actually came to incorporate those things into my strategy, which worked very well. Shiftry's Sucker Punch and Ninetales' Hidden Power Ice came as another pair of nasty surprises.

I'd say that about 9 of 10 of the people I faced were not clued in to Zoroark until he actually showed himself, which proves that Team Preview is easily forgotten in the heat of a long battle. Disguising him either as my bulky support mon or as a huge offensive presence usually allowed him a free space to fire off a Nasty Plot before attacking. Focus Sash was there for backup. Some of the hardest moments to keep quiet were when people would get all baffled and ask me "How do you have a special sweeping Mawile??"

People keep down-talking Meowstic, but that little kitty can tank like a rhino and was key to keeping my sweepers alive and crippling all those greninjas. Mawile and Gyarados managed to do a lot of sweeping, with Shiftry and Ninetales giving good coverage. I came to really like this team a whole lot.

Rotom-W was one of my biggest enemies. I need to stop making teams that are so weak to that jerky little washing machine. :) Props to all of you who managed to bring this team down. We loved every battle.

I'm generally happy with this team's performance. The new easily bred perfect pokemon put my older sweepers to shame, but my niche roles still filled as expected. MVPs were FuzzyWuzzy since people frequently switched in dragons on him for a nasty surprise and he only missed with Thunder once, Muffy who's Sleep Powder was always clutch, and Reginald. I only had the Pinsirite for about 10 battles but when I had it he hit like a truck. More than once people switched Ghost types in forgetting that his massive Returns were hitting as Flying type moves. I'm also very happy that I was eventually able to field a large roster. It was a little difficult keeping track of which could team together, but that was half the fun.

Oh my god... I used a lot of Pokemon. I'll post the ones I remember using.

[spoiler0ni][img0ni]http://www.serebii.net/Shiny/XY/006.png[/img0ni][img0ni]http://www.serebii.net/Shiny/XY/006-mx.png[/img0ni]
Menkar (Charizardite X)
Dragon Dance
Dragon Claw
Flare Blitz
Earthquake
This guy is my pride. Hatched him late March. 6IV. I don't consider him my strongest 'mon, but he's the one I brag about.

[img0ni]http://www.serebii.net/Shiny/XY/196.png[/img0ni]
Sol (Life Orb)
Dazzling Gleam
Psyshock
Psychic
Shadow Ball
Saw someone with a shiny Espeon. I was like "Damn, I got to hatch myself a shiny Eevee and make it an Espeon." So I did.

[img0ni]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/658.png[/img0ni]
Arcturus (Life Orb)
Dark Pulse
Grass Knot
Ice Beam
Scald
After seeing everyone use one of these, I decided to give it a try. Packs a wallop, that's for sure.

[img0ni]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/059.png[/img0ni]
Sirius (Lum Berry)
Morning Sun
Extreme Speed
Flare Blitz
Will-o-wisp
This was the first guy I bred. Arcanine makes for a great physical wall.

[img0ni]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/034.png[/img0ni]
Achernar (Life Orb)
Thunderbolt
Sludge Wave
Ice Beam
Earth Power
This guy makes for a great sweeper. Fast enough to outspeed most pokemon, but bulky enough to take an attack. Not to mention, it gets the life orb boost without the hp loss.

[img0ni]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/184.png[/img0ni]
Aldebaran (Sitrus Berry)
Play Rough
Aqua Jet
Belly Drum
Superpower
With Bellyjet now possible, Azumarill is quite the pain if you let it set up. I've swept many a team with this guy.

[img0ni]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/286.png[/img0ni]
Gemma (Focus Sash)
Spore
Bullet Seed
Swords Dance
Mach Punch
adnfijfnvdfjvnaBRELOOM IS SO FUCKING ADORABLE AND IT KICKS ASS!

[img0ni]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/303.png[/img0ni] [img0ni]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/303-m.png[/img0ni]
Capella (Mawilite)
Sucker Punch
Swords Dance
Play Rough
Iron Head
A word from the wise: Do NOT let Megawile swords dance. It'll destroy everything.

[img0ni]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/310.png[/img0ni] [img0ni]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/310-m.png[/img0ni]
Schedar (Manectite)
Thunderbolt
Flamethrower
Hidden Power
Volt Switch
Parallelogram of doom! When I switch this guy into an electric move and then mega it, you lose.

[img0ni]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/006.png[/img0ni] [img0ni]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/006-my.png[/img0ni]
Procyon (Charizardite Y)
Solarbeam
Heat Wave
Fire Blast
Dragon Pulse
My other Charizard. Though I consider this to be the more effective one, I don't really like using it too much. Don't know why.

[img0ni]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/373.png[/img0ni]
Polaris (Choice Scarf)
Dragon Claw
Earthquake
Fire Fang
Stone edge
Moxie boosts are awesome, but I think I need to replace Fire Fang. Too damn weak to be worth using.

[img0ni]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/473.png[/img0ni]
Shaula (Life Orb)
Stealth Rock
Ice Shard
Earthquake
Icicle Crash
Kind of a suicide lead. Mostly used for SR. But it's capable of sweeping, so don't underestimate it.

[img0ni]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/468.png[/img0ni]
Canopus (Leftovers)
Thunder Wave
Air Slash
Aura Sphere
Roost
This Togekiss smiles at your struggle. Paraflinching is something it loves. Many have fallen to it and many hate it.

[img0ni]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/560.png[/img0ni]
Altair (Leftovers)
Bulk Up
Knock Off
Drain Punch
Rest
Not the mad moxie that you expect from Scrafty. This guy is a wall, and he's a damn good one.

[img0ni]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/479-w.png[/img0ni]
Etamin (Chesto Berry)
Will-o-wisp
Hydro Pump
Volt Switch
Rest
He washes away the competition. [color=#BFBFBF0ni]I'll take my leave now.[/color0ni]

[img0ni]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/598.png[/img0ni]
Adhara (Rocky Helmet)
Stealth Rock
Gyro Ball
Power Whip
Leech Seed
Remember before bank when this was the only Stealth Rock user? That's when I bred this guy.

[img0ni]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/709.png[/img0ni]
Vega (Sitrus Berry)
Will-o-Wisp
Leech Seed
Substitute
Phantom Force
This guy does the job pretty well. My friend introduced me to the power and I liked it.[/spoiler0ni]

Every generation I like to pick a theme, and name all my competitive pokemon after said theme. This gen it's stars.

My team performed a lot better than expected, and I felt especially bad when I started speeding up my challenges in order to get to more people, and reduced it to a "first to three knockouts wins!" Because my Talonflame was absolutely out of this world. MVP of the weekend was absolutely Talonflame and Mandibuzz (literally does not faint ever). Gliscor and Pinsir were my star counters to a lot of my teams biggest threats (except Greninja...ouch). Togekiss was surprisingly tanky for a special sweeper, which is what I had hoped for. When Dragonite went off, I did a ton of damage, but he never swept out, everyone was packing priority enough to cut him down. All in all, this team was one of my most powerful! I hope everyone had as much fun battling me as I did battling them!
