Is it just me or is it disproportionately water pokemon that are stupid, nonsensical, terrible, and obscure?

I mean there's Klingklang and Vanilluxe... And bulbapedia confirms that water is the most common typing.

I count 15/109 stupid, nonsensical, or obscure water types. That's gotta be high.

Well, Japan is an island and im pretty sure fish are the second most common type of animal behind insect. So it makes sense. Plus, there's plenty of stupid-looking fish out there and being the most common type would obviously shove a lot into obscurity.
