Now that we have Pokémon Bank, we're bringing back the ION Pokémon League. If you're looking for a place to test out your team before PAX, or just looking to have some battling fun, come check it out. It kicks off on March 3rd.

For those who don't want to click the link:

[spoilerghl]With the release of the long anticipated Pokémon Bank, it is time for the first 6th generation ION Pokémon event… the ION Pokémon League! There were two previous season of the IPL, which was conducted much like a professional sports league. This time, we’re flipping this thing around and revamping it completely.

The first major change is that the IPL will be an ongoing event. Players will be able to come and go as they wish, so no matter when you find out about it, you can jump right in!

The other major change is that instead of a traditional sports league, it’s going to work sort of like a ladder ranking or King of the Mountain type format. Thematically, I like to compare it to Pokémon meets pro wrestling… minus the spandex.

So, without further ado, here is the rundown of the new and improved ION Pokémon League!

League Procedures

-The ION Pokémon League will be a competition conducted over the 6th Generation Pokémon games, X and Y.

-Players will compete for the title of IPL World Champion in a King of the Mountain style competition. Each month, players will compete to determine who will receive the next shot at the Champion, with the title defense occurring at the end of the month.

-If there are enough players to warrant a two-division system, the IPL Interregional Championship will be created.

-Players will have 1 battle per week. The first three weeks are to determine positioning. The player with the highest point total going into the last week of the month will be granted a title match to take place during the last week of the month. That week, all other players will be matched up based on points rankings with double the points on the line.

-A win during the first 3 weeks of the month (4 in the event of a month that has 5 weekends, like August 2014) is worth 2 points and a draw is worth 1 point. During the last week of the month (defined by the last weekend being in that month), a win in a non-title match is worth 4 points and a draw is worth 2 points. Champions do not accumulate points while they are a Champion, but will partake in non-title matches during the first 3 weeks of the month (unless there is an odd number of players in the league/division).

-If a Challenger loses a title match, his/her points are reduced to zero. If a Champion loses a title match, the Challenger becomes the Champion and the former Champion resumes normal competition with zero points.

-If we have an Interregional Champion, he/she may “cash in” that championship to get an automatic World Title match. If the Interregional Champ loses that match, he/she then stays in the World division and competes there with points reset at 0. A new Interregional Champion would then be crowned at the end of the current month between the top 2 in the rankings of that division.

-If the Interregional Champion successfully defends the title 5 times, he/she will be forced to relinquish the title and move up to the World division and will be granted a World Title match as outlined in the previous rule.

-The league week runs Monday-Sunday. Players will be informed of their opponent for the week no later than Monday morning.

-Scheduling will attempt to be as even as possible. In other words, I will attempt to make sure that a player doesn’t have far more matches against a particular player than others.

-Players who feel they might miss a week can make up a match (or play it early if it will be the 3rd week of the month) if they contact me ahead of time to let me know.

-If there is enough interest to warrant it, a Duos division will be created where players form teams of 2 and compete there in addition to in the Singles division.

-At the start of the event, or in the event that a Championship is vacated, play will continue as normal, and the two highest ranking players going into the last week of the month will face off to determine a new Champion.

-League Procedures are subject to amendments as needed to improve the event.

Battle Procedures

-Each non-title match is a single battle. The format of the battle (Single/Double/Triple/Rotation) is chosen by the player who is ranked higher. Additional battle stipulations can be made, provided that they are agreed upon by both players. (For example, both players may agree that only Normal-type Pokémon may be used.) This is not required, and does not award any bonus points, but allows players a measure of creativity if they choose to use it.

-Title matches are best of 3 and the format is set by the Champion. The Champion may suggest additional stipulations, but the Challenger must agree to them.

-No two Pokémon on a player’s team may hold the same Item.

-The moves Double Team and Minimize are banned.

-The items Soul Dew and BrightPowder are banned.

-A player is not allowed to put more than one opposing Pokémon to sleep using a move that induces the sleep status. (Known as the Sleep Clause in most circles.)

-Pokémon deemed to be illegal (moveset or stats) will result in forfeiture of the match, and possible removal from the game.

-If both players’ final Pokémon faint on the same turn, the match is determined to be a draw.

-Battle Procedures are subject to amendments as needed to improve the event.

How to Join

To join the event, post in this thread (http://iongamecorner.forumer.com/ion-pokemon-league-t2350028.html) (account creation is free) with the following information:

Name: This is the name you want to be referred to during the event. In theory, it would be the same as your trainer name in game, but this is entirely up to you. It can be first and last, just first, just last, however you want to be indentified.
Nickname: Optional. You may give your player a nickname.
Friend Code: This is self-explanatory.
Hometown: Pick a place in the Pokémon world. It doesn’t matter if someone has already chosen it.
Theme Song: This will be potentially used for battle videos and is also optional. Providing a link to said song will be helpful too.

Here is a sample, and my official entry:

Name: Alexander Alberts
Nickname: The Emerald Knight
Friend Code: 1993-7579-0707
Hometown: Celadon City
Theme Song: Hunting a Stormy Tornado by Kyungwon Lee (Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_HCEUH6G5s)

There you have it. If there are any questions, feel free to post and ask. There is also still time to discuss the rules and procedures before the start of the event, so feel free to voice any opinions about that as well. The IPL kicks off on Monday, March 3rd. Head on over to the forum, get signed up, and get your team ready![/spoilerghl]

For anyone who might be interested, the first month of the IPL is coming to a close this week, and it's a great chance to jump on board. Here's a few links to show some of the stuff we're doing and some of the flavor added to the league so that it's more than just battle, rinse, repeat.

Week 1 recap: http://iongamecorner.wordpress.com/2014 ... ap-332014/
Week 2 recap: http://iongamecorner.wordpress.com/2014 ... p-3102014/
Week 3 recap: http://iongamecorner.wordpress.com/2014 ... p-3172014/
BattleMania Preview: http://iongamecorner.wordpress.com/2014 ... a-preview/

After this week's battles, I'll be putting together full recorded video packages on all of the battles from this week. Just looking to try and keep it as much fun as possible for people. We're always looking for more people to join, so if you're interested, let me know.

I'm reviving this old thread to let anyone who might be interested know that we're doing a couple of special things to celebrate the one year anniversary of the league.

First, we're awarding double points for wins between now and the end of the next special event at the end of March, BattleMania II.

More importantly, we're doing a raffle to help entice some new players to join. Anyone who joins between now and the end of March and stays active in the league through the end of April will get an entry into the raffle. You can also get entries for referring players who join. The more entries we get, the more prizes we'll have.

I'd love to see someone of the PPL people jump on board because we have some great and creative trainers here!
