It's that time again! The dust has settled and the smoke has cleared on another PAX East. Time to show off your teams leaders and challengers alike. What Pokemon did you use to either defend your badge or pave your way to challenger glory?

This team actually had zero thought put into it as far as Pokemon choices went because I only had 6 green Ground types to choose from (Zygarde notwithstanding because I prefer not to use legendary Pokemon on my leader teams). The team ended up being very defensively resilient, but on the other side of it, not very hard hitting at all outside of Flygon. Also, since I was doing triple battles, as usual, I had some fun with Seismitoad boosting Gastrodon through Storm Drain. It also caught a few people off guard who helped boost it as well. Overall, the team actually performed a little better than I thought it would. I was expecting about a 25% win rate and ended up at 33%, which as a casual level leader, I was more than happy with.

Thanks to all of the challengers who I got to battle this weekend. It was a blast, as always!

This was my team for PAX East. Ludicolo is one of my favourite Pokemon and I always wanted to make use of a healing / water team. I was planning on giving Ludicolo Surf instead of Bubble Beam but I forgot to do that pre-PAX and decided not to mess with it, same goes for swapping Discharge on Lanturn for Thunderbolt, but again, didn't do that.

I wanted to make sure I could keep Lanturn and Ludicolo alive with rain and water moves, hence surf.

My team did worse than I expected, but I think in theory it's pretty good, but in execution I fell short, but that's okay because I'm Casual, so I think I served the purpose. I don't know the type charts very well, or often didn't know the types of some Pokemon (I think I asked about Gallade's type at least 23 times). Though I learned a lot this weekend, I actually think I got better as the convention progressed. I learned that fairy is weak to steel types.

So I gave everyone my badge, if I beat someone, I'd still give them my badge. My win-loss record was 13-62.

The only time I didn't give out my badge was if someone lost, and they didn't want to accept it, but wanted to rematch, which was cool.

I think I was one of few double battle leaders, and I only allowed people to use 4 Pokemon.

I want to thank all my challengers I had an amazing time and thanks for putting up with my weird rules. I ended up having to ban Ferrothorn and Leftovers but overall everyone was a good sport.

The Chords of Steel! Final Win/Loss was 25/19, with a handful of the losses being from rematches.

Pretty happy with how the team turned out and performed (though Magnezone and Metagross didn't pull their weight nearly as much at the others). Bronzong wasn't in my initial roster, but he ended up leading every match and proved to be one of the most useful members of the team. Those screens saved my case many times.

It's kind of silly how many times I got off a full three Swords Dance Mega-Scizor sweep. If they had no Fire moves left, Scizor could eat most anything they could dish out, and Roost every couple of turns until I was ready to Bullet Punch my way to victory.

Wow that steel team o.O

The costumes from the few pics on twitter looked awesome and everyone looked like they had fun. We have our work cut out for us @ PAX Aus to out do what loomed like such an amazing performance!

I was Ren Daitox, the Shiny Bug Hunter. All my Bug Pokemon were bred with at least 5 perfect IVs with the Masuda Method to be shiny, took a lot of eggs and time but it was worth it.

I believe I had 60-70 matches. I am not sure of the exact numbers but I think I won at least half of them, though even when I won I usually gave my badge to them if we had a good match, especially when I was on my last Pokemon which happened alot. My Forretess was a good wall for putting spieks down and after Volt Switching out I could also set down Sticky Web, though it made good use of Sturdy every time it took quad damage from a fire move. My Mega would Swords Dance than Baton pass into my Giant Centipede who would Boost to victory going Sonic fast. The mother of my Joltiks served me well when it came to dealing damage bad type matchups. My Yanmega was choiced with tinted lens so that even a Not Very Effective Bug Buzz could one shot. My Shuckle was a Shuckle .Overall team was well set and trained though they melted when it came to fighting Dragon, Fire, or Flying types(though these types weren't necessary to beat me) true to my Intermediate rank.

I knew for a while that I wanted to be Blaine for PAX East this year, but I was still tinkering with my team even into the first day of the convention. Mono-Fire is not the easiest monotype team to succeed with in Gen VI, especially with weaknesses to some of the most commonly seen types in standard play. That said, I knew I had to find a way to work around my weaknesses to reach victory. That mindset proved critical in helping me go the distance and become Champion.

[img3rq]http://www.serebii.net/pokearth//trainers/frlg/36.png[/img3rq]
[b3rq]Blaine, the Quiz Master[/b3rq]

[spoiler3rq][img3rq]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/059.png[/img3rq]
Hachiko (Arcanine) @ Leftovers
Gender: Male
Ability: Intimidate
IVs: 31/31/31/x/31/31
EVs: 248 HP/8 Attack/252 Defense
Nature: Impish

Extreme Speed
Flare Blitz
Morning Sun
Will-O-Wisp

Arcanine is one of Blaine's signature Pokémon, so I'm fortunate that it also could fill a crucial role on my team as a physical tank. Intimidate allows Arcanine to hinder physical attackers while switching in. Morning Sun is Arcanine's only reliable recovery move, while Will-O-Wisp cripples any physical attackers that might give my team problems (e.g. Azumarill, Garchomp). Flare Blitz is a powerful move even without a lot of attack investment, while Extreme Speed is invaluable in picking off weakened opponents, especially ones that rely on priority. Arcanine proved useful in crippling opposing attackers, giving my sweepers a window of opportunity to set up and clean house. However, his greatest moment came in my match against Elite Eight Member Erkenhelm, where he was able to finish off the last three members of his team and tank a Giga Impact from Erkenhelm's Slaking to burn it with Will-O-Wisp, allowing me to stall out for the win.

[img3rq]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/006-mx.png[/img3rq]
Smaug (Charizard) @ Charizardite X
Gender: Male
Ability: Blaze/Tough Claws
IVs: 31/31/31/x/31/31
EVs: 252 Attack/4 Defense/252 Speed
Nature: Jolly

Dragon Claw
Dragon Dance
Flare Blitz
Roost

Mega Charizard X is arguably the best Fire type physical sweeper allowed under PPL's rules. He only needs one or two boosts to clean up teams. Charizard proved pivotal in my final battle against Robin, tanking a Dragon Claw in his normal form to allow me to set up Dragon Dance and sweep the last four members of her team. Not having a weakness to Water or Ground (before Mega Evolution) is also sorely needed for a team like this one. The moveset and EV spread are a standard physical sweeper build: Dragon Claw and Flare Blitz can hit almost everything for at least neutral damage, Dragon Dance boosts Attack and Speed to get a sweep going, and Roost is a reliable healing move that allows Charizard to counteract Stealth Rock damage.

[img3rq]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/663.png[/img3rq]
Eldin (Talonflame) @ Nothing
Gender: Male
Ability: Gale Wings
IVs: 31/31/31/x/31/31
EVs: 248 HP/8 Attack/252 Sp. Def
Nature: Careful

Acrobatics
Bulk Up
Roost
Taunt

I mulled over whether or not to go with a Swords Dance or Choice Band set with Talonflame. However, once I saw that I had Charizard and Volcarona to sweep, I decided to try something different with Talonflame. Full investment in special bulk allows Talonflame to sponge a lot of special attacks he otherwise would not be able to handle (e.g. several super-effective Water attacks) while being able to switch into Stealth Rock twice. Acrobatics is almost as powerful as Brave Bird without any recoil, Roost allows Talonflame to stay healthy and heal off hazard damage, and Bulk Up increases both sweeping power and physical bulk. Taunt is useful in shutting down many defensive Pokémon (e.g. Mandibuzz) that would otherwise give Talonflame problems. It's difficult to play Talonflame poorly, but even so he was usually my go-to cleaner against most teams. Even without much Attack investment, Acrobatics hits really hard after a few Bulk Ups.

[img3rq]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/392.png[/img3rq]
Wukong (Infernape) @ Life Orb
Gender: Male
Ability: Blaze
IVs: 31/31/31/31/31/31
EVs: 100 Attack/156 Sp. Atk/252 Speed
Nature: Naive

Close Combat
Fire Blast
Grass Knot/Stealth Rock
Nasty Plot

Infernape's main value came in being the fastest member of the team outside of priority moves. I decided to go mixed with Infernape to make it more difficult to wall, as a physical set wouldn't do much that Mega Charizard X couldn't, and Chandelure and Volcarona already had special attacking well covered. The EVs allow Close Combat to do enough damage to KO what it needs to (Heatran, Tyranitar, etc.) while maximizing speed and special attack. Close Combat and Fire Blast are the core moves on this set, taking advantage of Infernape's great STAB combination. I initially went with Grass Knot for coverage, but I soon realized that I would need hazard support to get past the Elite Eight and Champion. As such, I switched out Grass Knot for Stealth Rock about halfway through my run. Nasty Plot allows Infernape to hit hard with Fire Blast, but I rarely found an opportunity to set it up that wouldn't be better spent doing something else. While Infernape rarely was the MVP of the team, I do not think i would have been successful without it. The hazard support in particular was crucial later on, as it softened up opponents enough for one of my sweepers to come in and finish the job.

[img3rq]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/609.png[/img3rq]
Lumiere (Chandelure) @ Choice Scarf
Gender: Male
Ability: Flash Fire
IVs: 31/x/31/31/31/31
EVs: 252 Sp. Atk/4 Sp. Def/252 Speed
Nature: Timid

Energy Ball
Fire Blast
Shadow Ball
Trick

Chandelure's raw power made it an ideal revenge killer with Choice Scarf. Shadow Ball hits many Pokémon that resist Fire Blast for neutral damage, while Energy Ball super effectively damages many of the Water and Ground types that would otherwise wall most of my team. The EV spread is a general special sweeper spread, maximizing both speed and attack power. Chandelure proved its worth in several battles, especially against the Water-type gym leaders and Elite Eight members I faced. In particular, Chandelure proved crucial in defeating Oceanus by taking down his Omastar to limit it to setting Stealth Rock and 2HKOing his Manaphy before it could sweep my team with Tail Glow.

[img3rq]http://www.serebii.net/xy/pokemon/637.png[/img3rq]
Khepri (Volcarona) @ Passho Berry
Gender: Female
Ability: Flame Body
IVs: 31/x/31/31/31/31
EVs: 72 HP/252 Sp. Atk/184 Speed
Nature: Timid

Bug Buzz
Fire Blast
Giga Drain
Quiver Dance

Volcarona has fallen out of favor in standard play, partially thanks to getting hard countered by a certain Fire/Flying type bird, but its raw power and access to unique moves made it an ideal complement to the other two sweepers on the team. Much like Charizard, Volcarona can OHKO almost anything that doesn't have a lot of special bulk or resist its STAB moves after a Quiver Dance boost. Bug Buzz and Fire Blast are both hard hitting STAB moves, while Giga Drain deals with Water, Rock, and Ground types well and helps to heal off hazard damage. The given EV spread allows Volcarona to outspeed Choice Scarf Landorus-T after a Quiver Dance boost, maximizes its attack power, and gives it a bit of extra bulk. That HP investment proved crucial against Oceanus, as Volcarona would not have survived his Mega Sharpedo's final attack otherwise. Volcarona also shined against Professor Larch of the Elite Eight, as it was able to dispatch the final three members of her team after setting up Quiver Dance.[/spoiler3rq]

I was dressed up as Whitney this year, with my team inspired by her Pokemon in earlier and later games.
I really did not know what to do, other than I wanted to dress up as someone people would recognise, and with my pink/red hair I decided to go with Whitney (Flannery was my second option). I pretty much choose the cutest Normal-type Pokemon that she either had from before or that I could see her having, named them after her Pokemon in the Pokemon Adventures manga or in that style, and went from there.

I did not mean to copy the Diva here, a friend of mine helped me but together a Cinccino (I've never used it much) and this is what they recommended.

I had Baton Pass for a while, but as I never used it I decided to go for Nature Power later into PAX. I also tried out Choice Band for a few battles but went back to Choice Scarf shortly after.

Ability - Thick Fat / Nature - Impish

- Rollout
Of course I needed a Miltank with Rollout. She was a lot of fun, but I wish I used Rollout more. I was just afraid because I enjoyed being able to use Milk Drink. Also just the thought of Miltank and Milk Drink made me want to drink milk, which was difficult with no fridges around. I ended up buying some milk Saturday night, and it was [ish0]good[/ish0]!

Return was traded out for Last Resort when I realised I had traded my Pokemon from X to OR and not have time to get friendship up yet. I'm going to breed Buneary until I get a shiny, so I can have all pink Pokemon (except Cici) for next year. I find breeding a fun activity, so it'll be [ish0]fine[/ish0][/spoilersh0]

Eh sure why not, I'll do a write up. I challenged as Little Mac and all of my Pokemon were named after opposing boxers from the Punch-Out!! series.
I almost did mono Fighting then realized I wanted to win so I let myself be a little more liberal orz

Not much of a write up other than out of the 18 Pokes I had picked out, this one resembled the most fluid lineup and I ended up using this in at least 25 out of the 36 badge fights I had and only lost about 3-4 times. Roserade was great and Snorlax saved my skin in at least 6 games. Restalk is inconsistent, but highly underrated. Compared to other teams I have fought against and played with as well, this one was pretty modest and effective and I enjoyed playing with it all weekend. :)

Glad to see so many familiar faces popping up here in the showcase~

Here's the crew I ran with for PAX, the theme being the NPCs of Splatoon

Callie the Malamar
(Choice Scarf) w/ Contrary
-Switcheroo

The Great Zapfish the Eelektross
(Assault Vest) w/ Levitate
-Giga Drain
-Volt Switch
-Flamethrower
-Thunder[/spoileruec]

My team ended up a fair bit stronger than what I was hoping to end up with, actually. I ended up swapping out Spyke for The Great Zapfish pretty early on, because my potential for late game sweeping with this team is a bit on the crazy side.
Callie with Switcheroo and Choice Scarf is significantly more horrifying than I ever gave it credit for during testing, capable of destroying whole teams on her own if she wasn't dealt with fast. Judd was a nuisance with his great speed, hit and run tactics and priority.
Crusty Sean could rarely get off a Dragon Dance but managed to hold his own without it for the most part. Adaptability + Life Orb hits -hard-.
Jelonzo was my only tank and did well for the most part. Both Will-O-Wisp and Scald was probably overkill, it covered my team's low physical defense a bit too well.
The Great Zapfish's special bulk allowed it to survive STAB Draco Meteors and Serperior Leaf Storms, but mostly didn't help it too much. If it didn't have a super effective move to handle its opponent, it didn't do a great deal of damage.
Spyke was a Shell Smash Cloyster, which was a bit too much to handle with priority.
Octavio was the only one on my team who wasn't capable of crazy potential, because of his low accuracy and slow speed and bad defenses.

All in all, I liked my team a lot this time around, but I probably should've tossed myself in with the Veteran tier this year or changed up a few Pokemon to better fit in with the intermediates, because these guys were a bit out of control. I guess that's what happens when you can't choose between being kids or squids.

I was Gym Leader Rosette, the Glamorous Queen of Beauty! This was my first time being a gym leader and it was such an awesome time!
Theme: Beauty Queens
Tier: Intermediate

Here's my team of Queens:
[spoiler8p3][img8p3]http://www.pkparaiso.com/imagenes/xy/sprites/animados/jynx.gif[/img8p3]
[b8p3]Miss Kanto[/b8p3] @ Flame Orb
Ability: Dry Skin
Nature: Modest
EVs: 168 Def, 252 SpA, 86 SpD
- Lovely Kiss
- Ice Beam
- Psyshock
- Trick

Jynx was always my opener, and I would try to Trick on a Flame Orb onto the opponent, which would work unless 1.) opponent's lead/switch-in was a Mega, 2.) opponent's lead put Jynx to sleep, or 3.) opponent's lead KO'd Jynx. Lovely Kiss would be used for any others that Jynx would face after the other lead.

[img8p3]http://www.pkparaiso.com/imagenes/xy/sprites/animados/bellossom.gif[/img8p3]
[b8p3]Miss Johto[/b8p3] @ Big Root
Ability: Chlorophyll
Nature: Calm
EVs: 252 HP, 6 Def, 252 SpD
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Moonblast
- Sleep Powder

Pretty pleased with how Bellossom did overall. Not many challengers expected this cute lil' thing to be as bulky as it was, but it could still easily go down to strong physical attacks. Big Root was there for extra HP recovery to keep her in longer, and her range of attacks made her a surprise contender. I really hope Bellossom gets a Mega in SuMo.

[img8p3]http://www.pkparaiso.com/imagenes/xy/sprites/animados/gardevoir-mega.gif[/img8p3]
[b8p3]Miss Hoenn[/b8p3] @ Gardevoirite
Ability: Trace (normal), Pixilate (mega)
Nature: Modest
EVs: 252 HP, 124 Def, 108 SpA, 26 SpD
- Psyshock
- Hyper Voice
- Focus Blast
- Protect

The Mega! I managed to get lucky with some of the Focus Blast hits, despite its 70% accuracy rate. That move was my only real counter to pesky Steel types, unfortunately. EV spread was for bulk and power instead of speed.

[img8p3]http://www.pkparaiso.com/imagenes/xy/sprites/animados/vespiquen.gif[/img8p3]
[b8p3]Miss Sinnoh[/b8p3] @ Occa Berry
Ability: Pressure
Nature: Careful
EVs: 248 HP, 252 Def, 10 SpD
IV: 0 Speed
- Attack Order
- Protect
- Roost
- Toxic

Defensive wall. It has 0 IV Speed due to Trick Room (see below). I actually had a lot of different encounters with other trainers who would switch into a Beedrill for a full Bee vs. Bee experience. Occa Berry came as a surprise for battlers trying to OHKO her with a Fire-type move. Also, Attack Order turned out to be(e) a move that not a lot of battlers saw from other Vespiquens.

[img8p3]http://www.pkparaiso.com/imagenes/xy/sprites/animados/gothitelle.gif[/img8p3]
[b8p3]Miss Unova[/b8p3] @ Lum Berry
Ability: Shadow Tag
Nature: Calm
EVs: 248 HP, 10 Def, 252 SpD
IV: 0 Speed
- Trick Room
- Psyshock
- Calm Mind
- Thunderbolt

The Trick Room setup beast. Usually I would start using Calm Mind after setting up a Trick Room, but if Gothitelle had low HP, I'd just try to get an attack in, considering it would just be KO'd anyway even with a +1 CM. Some challengers thought that Gothitelle was a Dark type, but it's actually a pure Psychic type.

[img8p3]http://www.pkparaiso.com/imagenes/xy/sprites/animados/florges-white.gif[/img8p3]
[b8p3]Miss Kalos[/b8p3] @ Leftovers
Ability: Flower Veil
Nature: Calm
EVs: 252 HP, 232 Def, 26 SpD
- Wish
- Protect
- Moonblast
- Aromatherapy

Special wall cleric. Apparently, there were a few challengers that thought Florges was a Grass type (in all fairness, it would make sense for a large bouquet monster to be a Grass type), when it is in fact a pure Fairy type. I debated on adding another attack instead of having Protect, but Protect seemed to work out better in the end.[/spoiler8p3]

Win/Loss record for Battles was 18-47 (27.7% win rate)... but wait, there's more!

As I was also a Beauty Queen themed gym leader, I also accepted Beauty Contest challenges for anyone with ORAS! However, only a handful of people went for the contest, but it was still awesome for those who won to be able to get a badge that way (Win/Loss record for Contests was 2-5).

Overview on how my contest challenge worked: I would pick any of my 6 - with their Beauty maxed out plus holding a Blue Scarf - to go up against the challenger plus two CPUs of whatever rank that the challenger chooses, and as long as the challenger defeats me (regardless of the CPUs' placements), they would win a badge!

There was one person who beat me in both a battle [i8p3]and[/i8p3] a contest. [url=https://twitter.com/AlsoSprachRosy/status/7243299074305392688p3]He got crowned.[/url8p3] It was awesome.

Thanks for a fun PAX, everyone!
