We're looking for up-and-coming trainers from around the world to don the green scarf in Boston and defend the honor of the PAX Pokemon League at PAX East 2013!

Gym leaders are responsible for accepting challenges from eager champs-in-making, and awarding their personal badges to those they deem worthy.
In less romantic terms: as a gym leader, while you're wandering the halls of PAX, you'll be accepting challenges and playing a lot of Pokemon and having a lot of excellent battles and giving out pins!
We're looking for players of [byul]all skill levels![/byul] This is NOT a Pokemon tournament. The only requirement is a copy of Black 2 or White 2 (or Black or White, pending battle compatibility details), and can put together a unique team of Pokemon that is fun to play against. We'll be selecting upwards of 30 individuals to participate, so if you're thinking about applying, go for it!

0) [byul]TIME COMMITMENT[/byul]: Being part of the PPL requires [byul]time commitment[/byul] before and during PAX. At PAX, you'll be playing lots of Pokemon and attending meetups where swarms of challengers will be clamoring to battle for the right to earn your badge. This will take time! You don't have to accept challenges 24/7 (remove your scarf if you get tired) but you will be expected to be available for challengers as often as you can.
There are also various organizational details that require time commitment in the months leading up to PAX, including getting your badges designed and ordered, writing a trainer bio, etc. We expect you to submit stuff on time when we ask you for it! No Slowpokes/Slowbros allowed!
1) [byul]3-DAY PASS[/byul]: You must [byul]purchase a 3-day pass[/byul] as soon as they go on sale, and send us proof (a copy of the confirmation email with sensitive information redacted). Badges go quickly, so we can't risk our leaders not being able to attend. An application to the PPL means you're DEFINITELY going to PAX East.
2) [byul]MONETARY RESPONSIBILITIES[/byul]: You will be responsible for designing and ordering your badges. (Though help will be available in regards to design if you need it!) This usually costs around $20 plus shipping. If you've never been a leader before, you'll also be responsible for paying for your leader scarf, which we have to make, which will likely be around $15 (to cover cost of materials, we don't sell them). This year we're also planning on requesting a $5 donation to cover cost of promotional materials/prizes.
3) [byul]PERSONAL INTERACTION[/byul]: The league involves interacting with lots of people at PAX. You must be comfortable with this! A lot of people choose to cosplay existing gym leaders, or design an original persona for themselves to play. We don't require cosplay or themed outfits, but we greatly encourage it. We also don't expect people to LARP, but it's usually more fun for everyone if you get into character as a gym leader a little bit, goading challengers on, etc.

Footnotes:
(1): If you're under 18 (or a minor in your country of residence), we need parental permission for you to participate. Submit your application, and we'll contact you about the additional steps needed.
(2): These are not for sale, we're only charging for the materials and shipping. We won't be making any money off of this.
(3): We welcome people with other responsibilities, including enforcers and people working booths, but we want those that can devote at least a few hours per day to the league, or take challenges at their posts.
(4): Goes after your leader name. Most of the time it's "the X Y!" where X is one or two adjectives and Y is a one or two word noun-phrase. Like "Misty, the Tomboyish Mermaid!" or "Erica, the Nature-Loving Princess!" or "Jasmine, the Steel-Clad Defense Girl!"
(5): e.g., 'Water'. Can be more specific, such as 'Fish-Shaped Pokemon,' or more quirky, such as 'All Stunfisk.' This MUST BE SPECIFIC. Things other than monotype will be closely scrutinized. We can only accept a few themed teams, so you have a better chance of getting accepted with monotype teams.
(6): One word, if possible, like the games.
(7): In order for a leader application to be accepted, you MUST have a design concept for your badge. While there's an explicit template badges will have to follow, leaders are free to create their badge on their own. We have plenty of help available for the less-artistically-inclined to help make your concept a stunning reality. We do need some help from you, though, so we have something to go on. An MSPaint sketch would work nicely, but if you're even MSPaint challenged, a detailed description is acceptable.

(8): Please write down what you plan to actually wear to PAX as a leader. Costumes encouraged, but not required. Minimal, comfortable costume designs/elements are great.
