Casual Badges

Here's where you can suggest things for the PPL to do!

Casual Badges

Postby PeasantDave » Tue Mar 22, 2011 3:19 pm

I have a brainstorm concept. I don't expect it to be used, but maybe there's something to be taken from it.

The idea is borrowed from the pub crawls, where you get a bonus badge for dressing up. This effectively gives you a free pass on one of the challenges. There's a couple ways we could do this:

- Have a single "bonus badge" which can be given for dressing up/having a funny team/having a theme team/etc.
- Have a badge for several different "casual goals" (like the ones mentioned above). Maybe a scavenger hunt? Bringing Heleor lunch? (minion badge)

This would serve two purposes:
- Less competitive people would be able to get more badges. (Not saying if this is a good or bad thing)
- Hypothetically less people waiting in line for non-elite four members.

Again... this is a brainstorm.

Haha, having so many people bring me lunch would probably be overkill. ;)

I'm personally not a fan of this idea because the league as a whole is meant to be hard but do-able. Some leaders already choose weaker teams, but it requires some skill to defeat the elite four. (Not that anyone beat Shane...)

Yes, because bribery is the way to go.

I like the idea of getting to the E4 quicker...this might play into line reducing via minions. And seeing as there weren't all that many cosplayers, anyone who is cosplaying likely put effort into it (effort that they like aknowledged :D)

While I know this is old, I would like to reiterate this for next year. For Pax Prime 2012. N did this, and I think it worked well.

Also, I think your concept of "hard but do-able" may be a bit on skewed to the competitive side. Especially with the amount of casual players that were pulled in by Prof. Pine and other Gym Leaders. As a high level casual player I found it near impossible to get even 8 badges, and didn't even try for the Elite Four. Quite frequently I found myself being defeated after seeing only two to three of the Gym Leaders Pokemon, generally the last one being their ace in the hole they pulled in early to utterly destroy my team with some form of sweep. This was with a team that included a very nice type coverage, and several EV trained Pokemon.
Well, actually...

Many of us leaders agree with you on these points. It's something we're discussing currently and you'll be sure to see the results of that discussion both at East and Prime 2012, so stay tuned :D

this hits the nail right on the head. It will be tough for us to balance out the difficulty, but I hope in the future we can have more N-like badges, where you have to compete in other pokemon related tasks or some alternative ways of getting badges. As for difficulty of normal leaders, we are working on ways to adjust that.

Man, the look on peoples faces when we both got out our DSes, and I told them to go to feelings check.
