I agree that the line issue needs to be addressed, I feel like we're on the right path with this discussion, but the idea's not quite "there" yet for me.....

I agree that tokens seem a bit gimmicky, cool but a pain to make work.

I had a thought that sort of fits into this, what if there was a sort of "these two beat me and are waiting in line for another gym. If you can beat them you get a badge. You will not lose your spot in line, this is just something to pass the time, and possible be quicker" if lines are crazy long. This allows for challengers to challenge each other, gives the impression of "grunts" and could possibly shorten the main line. This leads to the problem of "what if the "grunt"'s team is crazy powerful and no casual teams stand a chance. To this, what if the GL chose people who gave interesting matches, not the people who destroyed them. Grunts would be at official meet-ups only, not wandering around since they are not official GL/E4. It could even be different grunts each day depending on who shows up or not.

Is this possible what you were trying for?

That may not be bad, basically pick out good challengers to "deputize" if they're willing to stick around and help play down the line...

Looks like it might be more trouble than it's worth. Again, I appreciate the feedback from everyone. I was just considering this, because I usually go to PAX with at least 2 others and we are travelling around the convention together 90% of the time. Now that I am seeing different opinions on the matter, I think that the more exclusive it is the better. Highly publicizing the tokens that give you next up on a gym leader might still combat the offended Pokéfans. Every twitter post prospectively. It could even be up to the Gym Leaders themselves to update the location of their minions.

I don't want to have challengers fight challengers for badges. It undermines the whole concept.

I'm leaning towards the emblems only being in effect [bfxf]at[/bfxf] the meetups. If you find a leader wandering around alone, feel free to challenge them - that's the whole point of the league!
