PPL Online 2023!

Hey everyone, PPL Online 2023 starts in only two weeks!

When and where?

Friday July 14th thru Sunday July 16th we will be hosting an online version of our Pokemon League on our Discord server.  As we get closer to the event special channels dedicated specifically to PPL Online will become available.

Format:

This year we will be shaking things up a bit from our usual beat X gym leaders, then beat Y elites to face the champion.  Instead once you collect enough badges you can challenge the champion right away to try to enter this year’s Hall of Fame.   For those of you that have been to PAX West recently, this format may be familiar to you.

This time around 8 badges is all you need in order to challenge our champion.

How to Battle:

All of the battles will be organized through our new and improved webapp.  Those of you that have been to a PAX in the last couple years will remember our webapp, and those that have challenged in PPL Online will be familiar with our bot,  This year we will be combining the two and adding all sorts of new features based on our experiences and feedback that we have received.  We’re really excited to unveil the new webapp!

More info about how to use the webapp will be available soon, so make sure to join our Discord and keep an eye out for further announcements.

Fun Events:

Every PPL Online we host a handful of events such as game nights and panels, and this year is no exception.  Below is the schedule for the weekend.

In addition, some leaders will be streaming battles on their own Twitch channels.  Announcements will be made in a special channel when they go live.

Prizes:

Every PPL features some prizes that we give away for participating.  Check out what we have for you this year and how you can get them.

That’s everything we’ve got for you for now, but starting Monday we will be revealing some gym leaders every week day!

Champion: Volcanus, the Scarlet Rogue!

Volcanus, the Scarlet Rogue!

Volcanus is back at PAX after being held hostage by his own Volcarona. This year he is redder than ever and is bringing the heat with a team of rouge rogues from the beautiful scarlet fields of Paldea.

Volcanus often uses Fire types! Use violet colored Rocks to diffuse the scarlet on the battlefield and be entered into the Hall of Fame!

East 2023 Leaders, PAX East 2023, PPL 2023

Elites: Ephraim, the Soaring Seeker, Nieve, the Shy, Shivering Skiier, Brantley, the Area Apparition and Coben, the Moon Gazer!

Ephraim, the Soaring Seeker!

A profound sense of adventure drives Ephraim ever forward. Always looking for something new to discover, he soars around the world with his Flying-type friends. From up on high, he looks to the world for the next discovery.

Ephraim soars the skies with Flying types. Bring them down with Ice and Electric attacks to earn the Welkin Emblem!

Nieve, the Shy, Shivering Skiier!

Nieve has always been a shy quiet boy growing up in the snowy mountains of Paldea as the brother of Grusha. One day, watching his brother at a snowboarding competition, he saw skiers and it was love at first sight. He slowly became the best ski racer, winning many ski races and becoming famous all over the region. Being the shy person he was, he left the fame to follow once again in his brother’s footsteps and becoming a gym leader.

Strap on your skis and hit the slopes to speed past the competition and win the Alpine Skiing Emblem!

Brantley, the Area Apparition!

Brantley is a Pokémon specialist dedicated to the study of Ghost-type Pokémon and the occasional Dark-type they accompany. As a former scientist at the Silph company in Kanto, Brantley has since retreated to the recluses of the old chateau in Eterna Forest where only his most recent student studying terastallization has contact with him. A former Gym Leader, Brantley returns to the PAX Pokémon League to serve in battle as an Elite.

Those who manage against the supernatural will be awarded the Silph Emblem!

Coben, the Moon Gazer!

Coben is used to traveling alone at night. He favors clear, moonlit nights where he can relax underneath the stars with his Pokémon. Ghost-types used to bother him back in Galar as a kid, but in Paldea he carries dark friends that keep him safe.

Bring your best Fighters, Bugs and Fairies to earn the Moon Emblem!

Elites: Aidan, the Master of Drakes, Sal, the Plow Driver, Mehnit, the Magical Guardian and Cass, the Punk Toxicologist!

Aidan, the Master of Drakes!

Aidan has spent many battles using various dragons. Together they’ve overcome many battles and challenges and seek more competition. In Paldea they encounter new challenges and add new dragons to the team.

Stop Aidan’s Dragons from taking flight to earn the Roaring Night Sky Emblem!

Sal, the Plow Driver!

Sal hails from the frigid north where he spent much of his childhood amid snowdrifts and helping out where he could with the family road clearing business. Nowadays he and his Pokémon friends run the business, having inherited it from his father, and in the off-season he lets their talents shine brightly as a representative of the League.

Weather Sal’s barrage of salt, sand, and steel to earn the Saltstorm Emblem!

Mehnit, the Magical Guardian!

Little is known about the true identity of Guardian Mehnit after they appeared one night with their Terastallized Pokémon to save the city. It is rumored that this guardian of love and justice is on the lookout for powerful helpers against the forces of evil. Gather enough badges and you too will have the chance to prove you’re worthy!

Mehnit uses the Fairy type! It will take more than foul Poisons to defeat the magic of teamwork and win the Mahou Emblem!

Cass, the Punk Toxicologist!

A former Team Skull grunt, Cass was left directionless after the team’s disbanding. Encouraged by Plumeria, Cass decided to go back to school and get her degree in Toxicology. Now armed with skill and knowledge, Cass has come to the PAX Pokémon league to give trainers a dose of her corrosive battling style!

Demonstrate your immunity to earn the Toxicant Emblem!

Leaders: Dottore, the Frigid Doctor, Cricket, the Chirpy Newsy and Lance, the Dragon Master!

Dottore, the Frigid Doctor!

The Dottore was originally who taught students at the Naranja Academy in Paldea and helped treat those who were sick as the school’s Doctor. He traveled to the snowy area around Glaseado to learn to use the properties of Ice-type Pokémon to create frozen medicine that could help treat his younger students.

Prove that you can outmatch Dottore’s Doctoral experience to earn the Frozen Medicine Badge!

Cricket, the Chirpy Newsie!

“The Paldea Pest – We Roll Up All The Dirt!” A day doesn’t go by when you don’t hear that call across the city, along with all the juiciest tidbits Cricket and their swarm of informers can collect. It’s more chirp than sting – or is it? Big if true!

Give Cricket a newsworthy battle to win the Headliner Badge!

Lance, the Dragon Master!

Hailing from Blackthorn City in the Johto region, Lance is a master of Dragon Pokémon! Believing in their superiority Lance has showcased what they can do as the leader of the Kanto Elite 4 and then as the champion of the Pokémon League. Now Lance has traveled to Boston and joined the PAX Pokémon League in order to show even more challengers just how superior Dragons are.

Freeze the superior Dragons in their tracks and you may have a chance to win the Dragon Master Badge!

Leaders: Iono, the Supercharged Streamer, Kenny, the Scavenger and Paul, the Pet-Project Prodigy!

Iono, the Supercharged Streamer!

Your eyeballs are MINE—caught in my Electroweb! Whosawhatsit? Iono! I’m the Gym Leader here! ’Ello, ’ello, hola! Ciao and bonjour! It’s time for the Iono Zone! I’ve got a special selfie challenge for all you viewers! And a shockingly fun battle for those of you who want to fight me instead!

Take a super awesome selfie or leave Iono’s team in the dust with Ground type moves to earn the Iono Zone Badge!

Kenny, the Scavenger!

What will you do without your precious team, trainer? Surviving the wilds of Paldea takes a sharp eye and quick judgement. Think you can scrounge up something to defeat me?

Lets meet up at a Union Circle for your chance at the Scavenger Badge!

Paul, the Pet-Project Prodigy!

Before taking up battling, most kids start out with just a few small Pokémon. Eventually, as they get older, kids are expected to start subbing out the “childish” Pokémon for the bigger and stronger ones. Paul personally thinks that’s dog water! The little guys have just as much potential as the rest of those scary monsters, and he’s here to prove it!

Send Paul’s pets packing to snag the Companion Badge!
